Selective Laser Sintering process

 

SLS is a kind of additive rapid prototype technology which form prototypes from powdered material.To selectively sinter the powdered material to fabricate the target structure.

In 1986,Dr.C. Deckar at the University of Texas, first proposed Selective Laser Sintering(SLS) idea in his thesis.And start up his company DTM to practice Selective Laser Sintering into reality,so developed the Sinter Sation--the world first Selective Laser Sintering process machine.In 2001,DTM was acquired by 3D Systems Company.

The whole Selective Laser Sintering process aset consists of one powder pot and one fabrication pot.
When it works,powder delivery piston of the powder pot push the powdered material up ,then the roller lay the powder evenly on the fabrication bed surface of fabrication pot;
Then the scanning system work start,at the guide of the slice model of the prototype data,the computer will direct the laser beam to selectively sinter the powdered material to form a layer of the part;
Once finished a layer,the fabrication piston lower a layer’s height,then material rolling again ,and scanning laser beam sintering new layer,the cycle repeats layer by layer till the 3-dimensional prototype fabricated;
At last ,bring the unsintered material back into the powder pot,take out the prototype.

When it comes to Selective Laser Sintering process for metal powdered material,the worktable should be heated to an extend before sintering,this can avoid the thermal deformation during sintering ,and does good to the connection between every layer.
