Selective laser sintering (sls) is similar to sla rapid prototyping,both make prototypes layer by layer which is called additive manufacturing ways.Yet ,they do have differences,the material of sla is liquid,while that of sls is powdered material.Then what else unique features does sls owns ?

The unique advantages of sls rapid prototyping
1.The biggest advantages of sls comparing to other RP methods is the wideness of its materials.In theory,any kind material that can be heated and form powdered material can be adopted as sls material.Available materials for sls are ,paraffin,High Polymer Material,metals,ceramic powder and the composite material of these.
2.Manufacturing process is simple and fast.Through sls we can manufacture complex prototypes ,models or toolings directly,and widely adapted to the design modification.
3.No supporting fixture needed.SLS fabricates prototypes from a powered solid block,and the laser beam can selectively scan the target material and sintering ,no need any supporting fixtures needed.
4.Less possibilities of deformation or warping than SLA.This permit SLS able to make some precised parts and parts like strips.
5.Because sls is making parts under high temperature scanning and sintering,so the parts from it owns a high strength and rigidity.

The flaw of sls rapid prototyping
1.The part surface is a little rough.As it’s made from powdered particles,so need manuual handling to make it nicer on appearance.
2.Have a requirement of the working temperature .For Industrial materials,it demands a steady temperature in the working area controled at 150℃~200℃.
3.The plastic ,ceramic or metal parts from sls rapid prototyping is does not perform as good as that from conventional methods,should be treated with copper infiltration or other treatments,but the precision cannot be guaranteed during treatment.
